towards creating a suitable political environment to make best use
of the international business potential by promoting accurate
information.
How does DEIK operate?
In order to
accomplish its tasks, DEIK collaborates with academic
establishments and other research institutions in Turkey, with the
counterpart organizations of partner countries, the UN and GATT,
various international and regional economic, financial, research
institutions and universities in related countries.
In
performing its activities, DEIK relies on the support of its nine
founding institutions and member companies of the bilateral
Business Councils. Comprised of these councils, DEIK oversees and
coordinates their operations while providing them with the service
of its permanent professional secretariat.
DEIK and
the Business Councils enjoy the privilege of representing a
majority of the Turkish private sector who choose to subscribe to
them, due primarily to the constituencies of its founding members.
This strength is further increased by the voluntary nature of
memberships. Each Business Council elects its own Executive
Committee amongst its members.
In addition
to Bilateral Business Councils, DEIK has initiated special
programs with a view to promote industrial collaboration with
individual countries on a project basis.
- The
OCIFT (Organization for Cooperation and Investment between
France and Turkey) program, established at the end of 1989, aims
at fostering joint ventures, transfer of technology, know-how
and financial partnership between French and Turkish companies.
OCIFT has offices in Paris, Istanbul and Ankara.
- The
industrial collaboration program with Japan, initiated jointly
by UNIDO and the Japanese government, entails the identification
of joint-venture partners on project basis. The program has
initiated in January 1992 and has already produced two
joint-venture projects in Turkey in addition to a portfolio of
projects currently under negotiation. This ongoing program will
further help to promote a dozen new projects in Japan starting
in September 1994.

created to represent Turkish industry on matters relating to
industrial relations. Membership is voluntary.

INDUSTRIALISTS' AND BUSINESSMEN'S ASSOCIATION (TUSAID)
A voluntary association which acts as an advisory board of
economic matters.
TURKISH
FOREIGN TRADE ASSOCIATION (TURKTRADE)
A voluntary organization representing large import/export
companies.
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (IKV)
Acting on behalf of the Turkish private sector, the foundation is
involved in matters relating to the European Community.

A voluntary organization representing the construction sector.
