Decorative Arts

Decorative arts in Turkey date back to the first century B.C. The most striking examples of decorative arts were produced during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods in:

• Enamelled Tile Making
• Miniatures
• Filigrees
• Stained Glass Making
• Marbling
• Gilding
• Repousse Work
• Calligraphy

Being entirely applied arts, these forms were regarded as crafts rather than art. Although styles varied widely, artists never signed their work.
